My Thoughts - Maybe, just maybe, Brian Cashman spent some time reading my article from yesterday regarding the team's shortstop situation.
In that article I stated:
There is no indication, based on Major League performance, across their careers, that Anthony Volpe is a better player than Jose Caballero.
As far as I am concerned, Anthony Volpe should not be simply given the position when he is called up. In sports, a player has to earn their position. Anthony Volpe has not earned the starting shortstop job for the 2026 Yankees. Jose Caballero has.
It seems the Yankees are operating smartly. Rather than giving the job to the former starter Anthony Volpe (who has greatly underperformed all expectations), they are basing this positional assignment on production and performance.
This is how an organization should be run. 100%.
Next, if Jasson Dominguez continues to hit well at the Major League level, he should be the starting designated hitter rather than Giancarlo Stanton or Paul Goldschmidt. Let's see what the Yankees decide to do once Stanton is able to return.
I have always liked Stanton, and I predict he'll be the better hitter than Goldschmidt going forward, but Goldy can fill-in at first base to give Ben Rice the occasional breather and replace him there (like today) when there is an injury concern. Stanton does not give the team any positional flexibility.
