You have to laugh, otherwise you might cry.

Within days of the Yankees letting Brian Sabean know that his leadership was no longer needed within the organization...

his name appears on the short list to be voted into the Hall of Fame.

Ah, the New York Yankees! This is the team we are supposed to love and root for.

(It becomes more difficult each and every day.)

Now, to be fair, whatever Sabean was doing for the Yankees, he also hadn't brought them a championship. In fact, whatever he was doing for the Yankees was kept very quiet. The most we basically know is that he was an advisor to Brian Cashman. What did he advise? Did he agree with Cashman? Did they disagree? Who knows? Still, the irony is something.

For the record...

Since 2010 as a GM:

Brian Cashman:

World Series Appearances - 1

World Series Championships - 0

Brian Sabean:

World Series Appearances - 3

World Series Championships - 3

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
