In extra inning games, with the infamous "ghost runner", and the game tied, if you're the home team, all you really have to do is sacrifice the "ghost runner" over to third, and sacrifice the runner home, either with a fielder's choice or a sacrifice fly. No hits are even necessary.

And this is why I get so frustrated when the Yankees don't score their "ghost runner" when they have one in extra innings, because they literally don't need to get a hit to do it. They can simply do it with all "sacrifices".

After that last game in Philadelphia, when we were lauding DJ's Grand Slam and 6 RBI's, people were saying "It's just one game" and even now, people are saying "sample size" or whatever else to indicate that this may just be a fluke or a temporary thing, but this seriously could be MORE than a temporary thing. DJ's poor hitting stats this season and last season, I believe, were a direct result of his toe injuries he has had. The toe (as we also learned from Aaron Judge's injury last year) is a key component to a batter's swing. A professional hitter "anchors" their toe a certain way and pivots on it when they swing. Injuries to that toe …

It's nice to be able to type this again: "D.J. LeMahieu, professional hitter."

he did it exactly as he was supposed to do

right up the middle and not exactly at a guy

most of the time, the runner scores even if the shortstop gets a glove on it
