by Paul Semendinger

March 8, 2021

What follows are some interesting, fun, and random facts, etc. regarding Matt Blake:

This will be Matt Blake’s second season as the Yankees’ pitching coach.

Matt Blake attended the College of the Holy Cross graduating in 2007.

While he played college baseball, Matt Blake never played baseball professionally.

The Yankees are Matt Blake’s first big league coaching position

The only other Major League organization, Matt Blake has been part of has been the Cleveland Indians where he worked from 2016 to 2019.

Prior to joining the Cleveland Organization, Matt Blake served as the Pitching Coordinator for Cressey Sports performance.

In 2015, Matt Blake was coaching a high school team in Sudbury, Massachusetts. (Talk about a quick rise to the bigs!)

Matt Blake did scouting work with the Yankees beginning as early as 2009. (He’s been on the team’s radar for a long time.)

Matt Blake still resides in Cleveland.

Before hiring Blake, the Yankees interviewed, among others, David Cone, to be considered for the pitching coach position.
