I'd be curious to see a list of numbers of playoff appearances this Century. I don't have the time right now to compile it all, but consider this:

Yankees 20

Dodgers 17

Astros 12

Red Sox 12

You gotta be in it to win it, and the Yankees have been in it 80% of the time.

I don't think you can build a team specifically to win 11 or 13 games out of 19 or 22 against the best teams in the sport. I think all you can do is put yourself in the best position to do so by 1) making the playoffs, 2) win the Division, 3) have the best record in the League, 4) have the best record in MLB. In a short series, small sample size can distort outcomes. A single game, inning, plate appearance, or pitch can dictate the outcome.

When keeping the .500 streak is the priority, what should we the fans really expect for the Yankees to do?

Unlike with Houston and Boston, I don't think GMS III set out to tank the Yankees by finishing 4th, 5th, or 7th from '87-'92. The team came by its suckage honestly, through Georgie's incompetence and mismanagement.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
