The Yankees scored 9 runs.
The Yankees pitchers allowed only one hit.
The Yankees scored 9 runs.
The Orioles scored none.

Clarke Schmidt allowed no hits but was taken out of the game. I get it. Pitch counts. I understand. The guy has been hurt and missed time in numerous seasons. But the game has suffered when we are so concerned about protecting players that we deny them chances at history.
Interest in the game suffers when no-hitters are no longer part of the game.
I understand why Clarke Schmidt was taken out. I get it. But I don't like this aspect of what the game has become.
At the same time that we believe there is a magic number of pitches a pitcher can throw without getting hurt, we also see more and more pitchers hurt, or so it seems. I would love someone to do a real deep study of the 100 pitch standard to determine if it really prevents injuries. I do wonder.
But today, I'm going to focus on a huge win! Maybe, just maybe, the Yankees will turn the corner now.
Remember the days when pitchers would start ever FOURTH day, not 5, and they would often have 20 or more complete games and ptich over 300 innings. How did they do that, and have FEWER injuries.
Warren Spahn had 382 complete games, averaging over 250 innings/year, and won 20 games, 23 times. Today, complete games are a rarity, as is 200 innings pitched. Only THREE complete games this year.
after the game yesterday, Boone said Volpe would have the day off on Sunday. after today he said we will see.
I understand. if I am honest, I probably give him a chance to build on today. Paul, I am curious what you think about this with your well professed and supported beliefs about momentum. i absolutely do not disagree with you about momentum!!! but I also think it is valid that players build on good experiences
I very much believe that Volpe needs to have more games off. my plan would be that he sits at least one game every 2 weeks. Peraza is a great SS.
another negative of changing the plan will be that Peraza was scheduled…
this small and overwhelming victory was as timely as timely could be.
i could NOT agree with you more!!! i have stated it often i miss, i long for, the days when pitchers pitched more than a few complete games in a season!!
i believe the entire game is better if we could return to starting pitchers throwing complete games!!
this is NOT a Yankee problem or a Boone problem or a Blake problem. this is a baseball problem!! no matter if you, or I, or Alan like it at all, this is the world of modern day MLB. in this world, there will be less no hitters and you correctly point out that is NOT good for the game, but also in this world, pulling Scmidt is the right move. …
After the rough stretch it is a great feeling after a game like this. I am not going to spoil it by getting ticked at the no hitter thing! Looking forward to a trip to Cincinnati to attend the game Monday night!
