Clarke Schmidt and the bullpen had a great game and J.C. Escarra hit his first MLB home run as the Yankees win 5-1 in the nightcap!

this is a team that defends well and hits well

and needs more pitching.

they have relievers returning from injury, and have plenty of relievers. they need to get Williams to get right and reclaim the role of closer.

but losing Cole for the season was a grievous wound.

getting Gil back would be helpful but Gil is not at Cole's level.

Fun fact: According to the Game Scores, Schmidt had a better start than Fried, 63-57.

Schmidt has to find consistency. If he can do that, he has the stuff to be a No. 2-3 starter.
