Trent Grisham, the amazing Trent Grisham, hit a gigantic homer in the top of the 8th to give the Yankees a big lead. That came after Ryan McMahon had a clutch run scoring single.
Heading into the 9th, it was 8-3. The Astros made some noise, but fell short.
The Yankees began their final difficult stretch of the season by taking two of three from the Astros, in Houston.
Yankees Win 8-4
Full recap in the morning from Tim Kabel.

I find it hard to imagine us letting Grisham walk at the end of the season. Bellinger would be a must sign, but with Boras you never go. If we sign both, then what happens to JD and Spencer Jones. I hate to see us block our most promising young players. Maybe we put Bellinger at 1B, Rice at catcher and have an Of of Grisham, Judge and Dominguez with Jones as the fourth outfielder. Reminds me of the Scott Brosius situation.
anyone notice as soon as the Yanks go to Weaver, the astros immidiately pinch hit their top LH platoon bats
sure sure Weaver has reverse splits. that is the Yankees business
the astro side of it is that they have guys that they TRUST to get big hits vs RHP and when the scenario arrives THEY DO give those players a chance to do their job!!
Boone way way way too often is NOT making correct use of VERY GOOD platoon bats!! and by not using them to do what they are here to do, he is making them unsure of their role and less prepared to do the job on the rare and unpredictable chance they are given …
why has Hill been removed from any consistent role?
as far as I am concerned, depending on matchups some order of Cruz and Hill have the 6th and 7th innings
if a starter goes 6 and depending on the scenario, they might get the 7th and 8th
Weaver is the regular 8th inning guy and Bednar has the 9th
the other formula would be Leiter, Williams, Doval share the 6th and maybe 7th
Hill usually gets the 7th, but you might use him to get a big out vs a leftie
Cruz gets the 8th
Bednar the 9th
and Weaver comes in at any time to face the most dangerous bats in high leverage moments
Good bye to this umpiring crew.
Dax Kilby back at SS, 3-5, R, SB
LHP Xavier Rivas went 5.1 IP. 10 K, 4 BB
Ben Hess, CG, W, 5 IP, 7 K, BB, ER.
the Yankees scored 7 in the first game
scored 7 in the second
scored 8 in the third
lotta Yankee offense put a persistent beating on the Astro pitchers.
poor relief pitching and ugly umping in last night's game kicked it in Houston's favor
the bullpen is a sometime gory thing
