In the Abbott and Costello "Whos' On First" routine, the shortstop is "I Don't Care."
Yankees fans care, very much, about who should be playing shortstop in 2026.
Who do you think it should be?

Volpe return begins after All Star break!
I do not think GLJ is ready for AAA. He has to hit above .260 at AA first, probably even better. I dont care how he does in spring training. Volpe was wonderful in Spring Training in 2023 and probably could have used a year in AAA. If Bichette is as bad defensively as they say, I woud go with the combination of Cabrera and Cabby until Volpe comes back and decide what to do later in the year or in the offseaso depending on how that group does.
On another subject, I just saw some sad news: Jesus Montero died in a motorcycle accident in Venezuela. He was 35. His career went nowhere after the trade to the Mariners. Did he get hurt there? He put up great numbers in the Yankee MiL system and in his cup of coffee with the big club in 2011. At least he made almost $1 million in his short career, so I hope his family is well provided for (which is not to minimize the tragedy of losing someone so young).
https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-free-agents-2025-2026 has a list of free agent shortstops with age and 2025 WAR. My comments after each in italics.
Miguel Rojas (37 years old, 4.5 WAR). In an ideal world, this would be a great fit for a one-year deal while waiting for George Lombard. But it would cause Jazz Chisholm's head to explode if he were forced to have Rojas as a double-play partner. Usually, you only have to worry about getting spiked by the runner trying to break up the double play . . . .
Bo Bichette (28, 4.1). Too expensive, plus terrible defense. Whatever he is, he's not a shortstop.
Trevor Story (33, 3.7) -- can opt out (Red Sox can void via club option). To…
I would go with A-Rod rather than Jeter
