About The Season: Opening Day and Predictions

About The Season: Opening Day and Predictions

By Tim Kabel

March 28, 2024

***

As the new season dawns, I will start off with a few predictions and my poem, which STN has graciously allowed me to post on Opening Day for the past two years.

Predictions:

  •        The Yankees will win 100 games, the American League East, and the World Series.

  •        The Yankees will struggle early in the season, and Aaron Boone will be replaced as manager by Brad Ausmus.

  •        Aaron Judge will hit at least fifty home runs.

  •        Shohei Ohtani will be suspended at some point during the season.

  •        Juan Soto will hit at least forty home runs.

  •        Giancarlo Stanton will be traded at some point during the season.

  •       Clayton Beeter will become an important member of the Yankees’ bullpen.

  •        Anthony Rizzo will win Comeback Player of the Year.

  •        Gerrit Cole will return to form after he comes off the IL and will lead the Yankees down the stretch.

  •        Austin Wells will win the American League Rookie of the Year.

  •        Jasson Dominguez will return earlier than expected, in May, and will become the regular center fielder, leading to the trade of Giancarlo Stanton.

  •        Aaron Judge will win the American League Most Valuable Player Award.

As you get ready to watch this afternoon's game, have some fun with those predictions.

Let's have a wonderful season rooting for the Yankees.

We hope so. I am definitely a "glass half full" fan, not a "glass half empty" one. That being said, the pessimistic fans are just as passionately Yankee fans as the optimistic fans like me. The pessimistic ones demand perfection and will not settle for mediocrity and anything less than a World Series Championship is unacceptable. Nothing wrong with passionate fans feeling that way. Me, personally, I will support the Yankee players even when they are slumping.

Just so much OF talent on the active roster and in the minors, especially if Spencer Jones is in AAA by June 1, the question is, how much time and how many ABs does Stanton have left as a member of the NY Yankees?

I still believe that the $162M man will be the under performing member of the starting rotation, which will set up an interesting situation when Cole will be ready to come back.

No matter what Beeter does, he will be riding the SWB Shuttle at least once in 2024.

I will still be shocked if Domiguez begins a rehab assignment before May 20 (the seventh month mark of the surgery).

Anthony Volpe will sit more than…

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
