After Manager Aaron Boone told the media that he pulled OF Aaron Judge during the 6th inning of Tuesday’s game as a way to rest him after playing on the turf, three days later Judge is now going on the IL. This is not a good look for Judge or Boone as questions about both durability and honesty, respectively, have arisen in the wake of this news.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees placed OF Aaron Judge on the 10-day IL with a right calf strain (retroactive to 8/12) and recalled INF Thairo Estrada (#71) from the Alternate Site. — New York Yankees (@Yankees) August 14, 2020
Aaron Boone on Aaron Judge: “He’s got a very mild strain of his calf. It’s something that I think he really wants to work through here and wants to be out there and feels like it’s a day-to-day thing which it very well may be.” Says “hopefully it should be a pretty short stint.” — Lindsey Adler (@lindseyadler) August 14, 2020
Watch how the story changed:
First it was Boone “being cautious” with Judge…
Aaron Boone says Aaron Judge is OK. He was being cautious coming after four days on the artificial turf at Tropicana Field. — Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) August 12, 2020
Then it was that Judge has “lower body tightness”
Aaron Boone said that Aaron Judge is getting treatment and is dealing with “lower body tightness.” He wanted to play but Boone decided not to put him in the lineup. — Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) August 12, 2020
And now he’s on the IL for the 3rd Time in 3 Years…
Aaron Boone said that Aaron Judge’s MRI showed a “very mild” calf strain. Boone said that he was told it is “Grade 1 (the lowest) or even less than that.” — Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) August 14, 2020
I don’t understand the point in lying about it. Because that leads to more panic before everyone assumes it’s more than a calf strain and we’re not going to see him until 2035 Old-Timer’s Day. — John Lembo (@JohnLembo1878) August 14, 2020
Aaron Judge is headed to the IL with an “extremely mild” calf strain, per the #Yankees Why did we need to dance around this for 4 days like it was leprosy? — Yanks Go Yard (@YanksGoYardFS) August 14, 2020
