The Yankees have announced that they have traded 1B Luke Voit to San Diego. In return they are getting Justin Lange, a right-handed pitcher from Texas. After the Yankees signing Anthony Rizzo earlier this week, it was clear that Luke Voit’s time with the Yankees was finished.
Lange was drafted by San Diego in the the first round (34th pick) of the 2020 draft. He threw 22 innings of rookie ball last season. Lange is 6-4 with a lean, but athletic build. His fastball sits in the mid to high 90s. He has a cutter and a slider that both have a lot of potential, and a changeup that needs a good bit of work. Lange is very much a work in progress, but his upsides are exciting. If he can figure out his control and get his release consistent, Lange could be a fun player to watch.
