First Basemen Chase Headley and Bryan Mitchell Traded to Padres

The second day of the Winter Meetings has already brought the Yankees to another trade, sending 1B Chase Headley back to his roots along with another Yankee 1B Bryan Mitchell. If you don’t understand the joke, here is what I am referring to: https://www.mlb.com/news/yankees-bryan-mitchell-plays-first-base/c-227408550

On a more serious note, however, 3B Chase Headley and RHP Bryan Mitchell have been traded to the Padres for OF (???) Jabari Blash. First reporting I heard about this was last night right here. Joel Sherman was the first beat reporter to get this though.

Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that the player coming back to the Yankees was Jabari Blash, here.

The Padres are absorbing all of Chase Headley’s remaining $13 million while also taking a controllable starting pitcher with no options left in Bryan Mitchell. Chances are Mitchell wasn’t going to make the 25-man Roster anyway after Spring Training.

Blash is another OF the Yankees are adding to the team, this move screams salary dump and freeing up 25/40-Man roster space. Chances are that this move is only a precursor to something else, now with the Yankees having MLB “holes” at 2B and 3B with the trades of Castro and Headley. Maybe this means the FO believes a lot in Torres and Andujar. Todd Frazier reunion to play 3B and backup 1B in the future?

As Hal Steinbrenner said yesterday, “We’re not done yet.” Happy Winter Meetings everybody! Can’t wait to break some more deals.

In the meanwhile, here are a couple rumors:

1. Bob Nightengale has stated some connections between the Yankees and Tigers for Michael Fulmer, and the Yankees and Diamondbacks for Patrick Corbin. Tweet.

2. Brendan Kuty reminds everyone that Todd Frazier is looking for multiple years on a deal. Tweet.

3. BleacherReport (and tons of others) talking about a potential Machado trade. He’s looking to go back to SS. Rumor here.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
