Yesterday, Trent Grisham came back on the qualifying offer for 2026. Today, I make the case that this was a bad move.

Trent Grisham:

All you need to know about Trent Grisham to understand this article was that he was born in 1996.

I want you to participate in a game with me. Below, I am going to list the names of every "One-Hit Wonder" song that came out in 1996, as listed by Tunecaster.com. (Link for the whole 1996 list is at the end of the article.)

What I want you to do- in good faith- is try and guess the name of the band that performed each of these songs. There are 31 songs on this list. Good luck.

Further Information:

To prove my point, here is some information on each of the bands/artists:

  1. The band who performed "Breakfast At Tiffany's" is still on tour in 2025. They recently did a show (on October 4th) in Waurika, Oklahoma. The population of that town? 1,840.

    1. To be fair, they did do a show in Dallas, Texas this past July...

      1. ...it was a free performance to attend.

  2. The duo that performed "Missing" has a Spotify. Their four most popular songs are all different remixes of "Missing".

    1. To be fair, it does appear they have a small cult following, with a few other songs passing 10 million streams and a recent "Best Of" album that has decent sales. Good for them!

  3. The artist who released "One of Us" released a new album in April, 2025. The most streamed song on that album has fewer than 10,000 streams.

    1. She'll be performing at the New York Society for Ethical Culture on December 13th, if you're a fan!

  4. The trio of brothers who released "Anything" had a successful debut album (in Europe and Asia), helped on by the fact that they were signed by MJJ Music (Michael Jackson's record label). It also doesn't hurt that they were his nephews.

    1. And even they didn't become a worldwide sensation, releasing just two more albums (in 2003 and 2015, respectively) before calling it quits on the music industry.

  1. You can join the fan-club on the band that released "Drown" for just $100 a year (though, membership expires on December 31st) and they'll send you a brand new song from them every month!

    1. For comparison sake: For $144 a year, I have ad-free access to over 100 million songs on Spotify.

      1. (Including all of this bands songs.)

  2. The singer who released the song "Feels So Good (Show Me Your Love)" had an article written about her in the Los Angeles Times titled, "Friends Warned [the singer] That Hits in the Pop World Are Few and Far Between, but the 17-Year-Old’s First Recording Is Already No. 1 in L.A.".

    1. It didn't work out for her, and I know this because this blurb I wrote here has more words than her whole Wikipedia page.

I think I've proved my point.

Let me know in the comments how well you did on the quiz!

I got a 0/31, but I was also born in 1998, so that's my excuse.
