I've told this story before, but it's worth repeating (I hope). Opening Day at Yankee Stadium 1978. It's a weekday, so my Dad is at work, and Mom takes me. It's a celebration of last year's World Championship team, and there's a promotion for the star of the Series, Reggie Jackson, last seen homering in three, straight swings of the bat in Game 6. Jackson famously said that, if he came to New York, they'd name a candy bar after him. Not an exact match, but I was frustrated then, others laughed. My mother was in the car waiting for me, but I was on hold to be the next caller on WFAN. She knew this, I said hello to my mother on the sir, then was amazed my mother turned the radio on. Well, on the next Shabbos in shul, people came up to my mother and were amazed she didn't hear it. Well the next day was Mother's Day, so my sisters decided to have fun at my mother's expense. But when I grilled her steak bloody rare, all I was forgiven.
