Taking A Step Back In Time: The Babe and Lou Gehrig

This is just fantastic – rare footage of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth during a barnstorming tour in 1927 has been unearthed and is now on line. See here:

I always love when I am able to get a glimpse like this into the past. We all have seen the same footage of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and their swings from the same perspectives probably a million times. Here, swing-after-swing, we get to see a slightly different Ruth and Gehrig.

This is gold. Pure gold. 90 seconds (it isn’t long) of precious footage. It’s great to see.

Remember, 1927 was the peak of Murderer’s Row. In 1927, Babe Ruth batted .356/60/165. Gehrig that year batted .373/47/173.

The entire story of the footage can be found here (from Cut 4): Watch new footage from a 1927 barnstorming exhibition game featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig
