The Tuesday Discussion (All Day Long) – My Favorite Home Run (Paul Semendinger)

REG-GIE. REG-GIE, REG-GIE
I have told the story on these pages before…
It was 1977. I was nine years old. My dad was a teacher at his Back-to-School Night. I was watching the game with my mom. My sister was playing elsewhere or sleeping already.
Reggie had already hit two homers…
My Dad came home and said, probably reluctantly, “It’s getting late, Paul has school tomorrow, he should go to bed.”
My mom countered, “The Yankees are about to win the World Series, let’s let Paul stay up to watch.” (My dad, as big of a baseball fan as there ever was, probably didn’t need much convincing.)
Reggie then hit his third homer into the night…
The Yankees won!!!
Tears of joy, which I didn’t understand at the time, rolled down my face.
I was hooked.
Forever.
The print above hangs in my home office.
