This was the most frightening Yankees moment I can remember…

It was either 1997 or 1998. One of my favorite pitchers, Jimmy Key went to the Orioles. The night he returned to New York to face his old team he was matched up against Andy Pettitte.

I had to go to that game! This could be an amazing matchup!

Early in the game Andy got a line drive off of his face!! I remember the first responders carrying him off the field.

An announcement on the scoreboard read “Andy Pettitte has been brought to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for analysis.” We will keep you updated.”

I remember how scared I was waiting for an update. Finally, we were updated on Pettitte’s condition.

He was going to be ok!! That was my scariest moment as a Yankee fan.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
