Well, You Know... - Last night John Sterling was honored and remembered before the game. I heard that YES was going to cover the ceremony, but unless the ceremony was just a video and having Michael Kay and Suzyn Waldman placing flowers on home plate (which wasn't much of a ceremony), YES cut away from the rest of the coverage (if there was any). The Yankees could (and should) do better.

To be fair, YES then did do better with some great Sterling tributes during the game. They also showed many of John Sterling's great calls.

During the game Yankees organist Ed Alstrom played many of John Sterling's favorite showtunes on the stadium organ. I enjoyed hearing that music in the background as I watched the game on TV.

The Yankees also wore the letters "JS" on the back of their hats in honor of John Sterling.

It Is High, It Is Far, It Is Gone! - Aaron Judge hit a first inning home run to give the Yankees a quick 2-0 lead. It was a Judgian Blast.

For Judge, the homer (#382) tied Jim Rice, Frank Howard, and Ryan Howard at 71st all-time.

Next up:

  • Larry Walker - 383

  • Harold Baines - 384

  • Dwight Evans - 385

That's Baseball - Cam Schlittler was bit by a drive up the middle. The ball bounded off the back of his leg and rolled to the shortstop position where Jose Caballero, who is rated as the league's best defensive shortstop, was unable to get the ball and prevent the base hit. A double play from the next player helped Schlittler get out of the inning.

It'll Be A Three Two... - With a runner third and two outs, Cam Schlittler struck out Dylan Beavers to get out of that inning.

Isn't It Amazing - Cam Schlittler's "strike percentage" this season is close to 80%. Just about eight out of every ten pitches he throws is a strike. And he throws 100 mph!

And it goes all...the way to the wall - Trent Grisham had two doubles in the game. On the second one, he advanced to third on an error and then scored on a Cody Bellinger sacrifice fly to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.

Swung On and Missed - Yankees starter Cam Schlittler struck out four batters in 6.2 innings.

You Can't Predict Baseball - In the sixth inning, Cam Schlitter who (almost) never walks any one, walked the last two batters he faced - the first to load the bases, the next to force in a run. Jake Bird came in to strike out the next batter and preserve a 3-1 Yankees lead.

How Do You Like That? -

This I Don't Like - It seems that John Sterling (according to Meredith Marakovits the YES broadcast) made a special tape of Aaron Boone's big playoff winning homer from 2003 and had Suzyn Waldman give it to Boone as a memento. (Charlie Steiner did the live call.) Boone, it was said, listened to the tape, but now doesn't know where it is.

Maybe Boone has so many tapes of his many big home runs that he can't keep track of them all...

That's Something - Jasson Dominguez scored on a close play at home following a wild pitch to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead. Dominguez was originally called out, but the play was reviewed and the call was overturned.

And... Thhheeeee Pitch... Line Drive, Base Hit Into Left Field, Chisholm Scores, And the Yankees Lead 5-1. (That single was by Ryan McMahon.) McMahon, he can.

Isn't That Somethin' - Jose Caballero then doubled home another run. After six innings, the Yankees had a 6-1 lead.

McMahon Can Again - Ryan McMahon made an amazing diving catch and throw to end the top of the seventh inning.

He Is Grish-A-Licious - In addition to his two doubles, Trent Grisham walked with the bases loaded to force in the Yankees' seventh run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

It Wasn't An A(aron) -Bomb - But Aaron Judge then had a two-run single that was quickly followed by a two-run triple by Cody Bellinger to give the Yankees an 11-1 lead. Jasson Dominguez then singled home Bellinger to make it 12-1.

Ballgame Over, Yankees Win...THHHHHEEEE YANKEES WIN! - The Yankees won the game in a blowout 12-1.

Back to Back (to Back to Back) and a Belly to Belly (to Belly to Belly) - The Yankees have won four straight. This win completed a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.

Have A Good Evening Everyone!

Rest in Peace John Sterling.
