As the Yankees head to Boston for a HUGE series, I thought it would be fun to take a quick look at the starting players to see who has the edge:

First Base:

Luke Voit (.211/3/6) vs Bobby Dalbec (.209/9/32)

Voit has been on the IL for much of the year, but he’s back now and swinging well.

Edge- Yankees

Second Base:

D.J. LeMahieu (.262/6/25) vs Marwin Gonzalez (.194/2/16)

D.J. isn’t having the year most thought he would, but he’s doing well enough. Gonzalez has been poor.

Edge – Yankees

Shortstop:

Gleyber Torres (.246/3/23) vs Xander Bogaerts (.321/13/43)

It’s Bogaerts in a run away…

Edge – Red Sox

Third Base:

Gio Urshela (.273/9/31) vs Rafael Devers (.280/18/60)

Urshela is one of the best Yankees this year, but Devers is having a monster season. It’s Devers, again by a mile.

Edge – Red Sox

Left Field:

Miguel Andujar (.244/5/9) vs Alex Verdugo (.282/9/32)

Andujar’s bat is showing life, but it’s Verdugo hands down.

Edge – Red Sox

Center Field:

Brett Gardner (.201/2/8) vs Enrique Hernandez (.231/6/19)

I wish it were otherwise… It’s sad when a player is washed up.

Edge – Red Sox

Right Field:

Aaron Judge (.286/16/38) vs Hunter Renfroe (.260/9/34)

No, this isn’t a contest. Judge every day and twice on Sunday.

Edge – Yankees

Catcher:

Gary Sanchez (.240/13/29) vs Christian Vazquez (.259/3/29)

A few weeks ago, one might have said, “It’s close,” but Gary Sanchez is ON FIRE.

Edge – Yankees

DH:

Giancarlo Stanton (.271/13/37) vs J.D. Martinez (.304/14/46)

It’s J.D. , but it’s closer than one might think.

Edge – Red Sox

Starting Pitchers:

Domingo German (4-4, 4.17) vs Martin Perez (5-4, 4.32)

I’m calling this one even

Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 4.03) vs Nathan Eovaldi (7-4, 3.90)

It’s Eovaldi. Uggg.

Gerrit Cole (8-3, 2.33) vs Eduardo Rodriguez (5-4, 6.07)

Cole in a landslide

Edge – Even

Bullpens:

I am giving this one to the Yankees

Edge – Yankees

***

Totals:

Yankees – 4 positions, plus bullpen = 5

Red Sox – 5 positions

Edge Overall – Even

This should be a great series. The Yankees are coming on strong. A big series in Boston would be huge for the Yankees.

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
